searching for some good design in Berlin with Klasse Troxler
In the begining of january i was on a trip to Berlin with Niklaus Troxler (my leading teacher in Stuttgart) and his class. We came there to visit some more and less known graphic studios and graphic designers. Here are some of the impresions and websites of artists which we visited.
first on our list was Christoph Niemann great ilustrator, lambent, wise ideas.

Second was eBoy studio, famous pixelart graphics - i think i don't have to write anything about them. Class in itself. I love their style.

Next on the list was not so well known ilustrator and designer former graffiti writer called Atak who surprised me with his briliant projects.

On the next day we visited in my opinion one of the best current poster designers: Jianping He in his studio Hesign

Next great studio which made a big impression on me was Hort. This is one of the studios that you really would love to work in, to participate in projects which are done, because of their artistic and designer value.

One of last on our list was a small Berlin studio called Cyan. Visit in that place reminded me of what kolorofon wants to make. A bit crazy, sometimes maybe controversial because of it's readable aspects, but usefull design. And a warm familly atmosphere.

This is only a (more interesting for me) part of what we have seen. Next on the list was: Fons Hickman m23, Meta Design (I hope I don't have to present them) , Blotto Design (great books!), Spiekermann Partners, Gunter Karl Bose, and Alpha Zet.
I'm really glad that i could participate in a trip like that and I would like to thank all that made this possible.

few books.
which i bought (or got in other ways:) during my journey (Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Prague).

TREK / David Carson / Gingo press
C.l.a.s.s.i.c.
http://www.davidcarsondesign.com

Arnold Newman / Philip Brookman / Taschen
Master of portrait. He made portraits of politicians, artists, normal people.
A lot of commercial photos.
I especially adore artists portraits which he took - Duchamp, Miro, Picasso, Pollock.

American Photographs / James Danziger / Assouline
In this collection of photos, we can check a lot of historic photos made by american artists. A lot of world known photos like photo made by Neil Armostrong with american flag on surface of the Moon. Big part of photos are b&w, only small part is colorfull.

Subway Art / Martha Cooper & Henry Chalfant / Thames & Hudson
Classic book for graffiti writers. But, i think very interesting for everyone. Focus on graffiti boom in new york 70s/80s. Explain every aspect of oldskool writing. Very good quality photos, a lot of oldskool trains, atmosphere of old New York.

In Graffiti we trust / Martina Overstreet / Mlada Fronta
Album which presents history of graffiti in Prague from 1988 - 2005. A lot of photos, discussions between famous writers from Czech Republic. Book shows also which ways chosen few writers from graffiti. A lot of them are graphic designers, photographers, show they work in galleries etc. Very good editing by Pasta Oner and Masker.

Writing the memory of the city / Dokument
"(...) This book assembles 15 Berlin artists from a circle that originated in writing. They are linked by a long, partly shared experience in Berlin's public space. The reader is given an insight into the ideas and thoughts of a heretofore hermetic movement, whose effects are manly revealed on the surface."
We can read also very interesting essays focused on city/city activitions.
Spair, Matthias Wermke, Akim One, Bus 126 and more.
